On 1 January 2006, the Directive on the activities and supervision of Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provisions (IORP Directive) came into force in Sweden. This means we receive uniform governance of occupational pensions throughout the EU. This is the first in a series of major regulatory changes in the insurance area over the next few years. A common feature of these changes is that detailed regulations will be replaced by general principles and that risktaking by insurance companies will gain greater attention.
