In order to strengthen financial stability and avoid future financial crises, new regulations for the banking sector are being prepared. The regulations include higher capital adequacy requirements.

The Government has given Finansinspektionen the assignment of reviewing how the adaptation of credit institutions is affecting lending to corporations and households, and their terms. This review includes the effects of this adaptation on lending and setting interest rates on loans to households and corporations. The report shall be published on a quarterly basis, and in the first one FI has chosen to focus in particular on mortgage lending and the banks' mortgage margins.
